Leaving Cert Student Competition Open now - Lets plant the seed

It all starts when you plant the seed and that is what this competition aims to do. The Irish Seed Trade Assocaition have partnered with IASTA (The Agricultural Science Teachers) to launch this competition and subsequent support for third level students who think about crops as a career.

The initial competition will have four 4 national winners of €500. It is based on a student's individual leaving cert projeect, on a topic relevant to crops. 

We very much value supporting and encouraging those who might go on to study crops and contribute to the industry in future. Winners will have demonstrated value to the seed / tillage sector in their findings. Bursary winners who go on to study a university third level crops specific course will receive a further €1000 in each year of the course. Students who go on to study agriculture at university or agricultural college receive a further €500 in December of Year 1. Students who specialise in electives or thesis on crops in the subsequent three years receive a further €500 per year to support their studies.

Courses above should begin within 2 academic years post Leaving Certificate.

Applications are accepted by post or email. They should include a cover page with the students & parent / guardian contact details to include address, email and a contact number, the name of your school and Ag. Science Teacher and a 200-300 word paragraph on the reason for selecting the topic. A copy of the project is to be provided with the application submitted by 3rd of May.

The Irish Seed Trade Association will shortlist projects based on the below possible criteria. These projects will then be marked according to below.

40% – project findings demonstrate the most value to the tillage sector.

30% – applicants understanding of the industry

30% – Quality of research / compilation of case depending on the topic
